As a guy attempting to surprise his then-girlfriend with an engagement ring theretofore unseen by her, I was fortunate to find Ken & Dana after many hours of searching online for the right spot. After digitally admiring their custom creations made with all recycled metals, I scheduled an appointment and went in for an initial consultation.
At our initial meeting, I spent about 45 minutes with Patty discussing my vision for the ring, what my then-girlfriend would like, and reviewing some of their sample rings. One constant theme was my desire to use a primary stone from my family along with some smaller diamonds from her family, all while maintaining a very simple overall look to the ring. Patty was incredibly helpful and came up with some really creative ideas for including the smaller diamonds without taking away from the ring’s simplicity. Ultimately, we went with an idea of hers that she said they had never tried — incorporating the smaller diamonds into the underside of the band.
In terms of coming up with a defined vision for rings, Patty was a godsend to me, and I suspect would be to other men struggling with precisely that their significant other would appreciate. While creative with her ideas and working within the bounds of the requirements that I imposed, Patty also cautioned me anytime I sought to do anything that might be outside the norm (e.g., ensuring that I was aware that a surprise engagement ring in rose gold—even very matted rose gold—was uncommon).
Patty also cautioned me that her suggestion of placing the smaller diamonds on the bottom of the band could result in the band being thicker there. Accepting that as necessary to accomplishing what I believed my then-girlfriend would most appreciate, I asked that they go ahead with the ring as planned.
When the ring came back it was absolutely stunning. Even better, the additional diamonds at the bottom of the band were perfectly set without widening the band whatsoever. When the time came to propose, my now fiancee was absolutely blown away by the ring. The fact that all of the metals and diamonds were recycled or heirloom, and the strong ties to both of our families, only added to her love for it. Within the hour, she asked when she would be able to visit the shop to look for wedding bands.
My interactions were with Patty and Ken and both were incredibly professional and a joy to work with. Whether you need some guidance or have a formalized concept, go visit Ken & Dana!
An amazing team Ken, Patty, Pearly, Natali! We were so grateful and pleased with Ken’s absolute artisan skills and Patty’s lovely help and artistic tastes, Natali and Pearly’s wonderful follow ups. And most of all, I thank them for their incredible patience and great service which they provided us until we were satisfied. My engagement ring from Ken & Dana is not only gorgeous but also it’s a very unique piece that created out of just combining their beautiful collections. We are so happy with our wedding bands. I’m forever Ken & Dana Fan! And I’ll order more from them again and again…
An absolute pleasure to work with these guys. Customer service is superb with quick follow-ups and on-point recommendations and suggestions.
They have an amazing collection of designs. My, now, fiancee absolutely loved the ring. We are coming back for the wedding bands!!
Pearly & Patty were absolutely wonderful throughout my whole engagement ring-buying experience! I approached them via email back in March of 2014 with a tough order. I was planning on proposing to my girlfriend of 4 years during our Costa Rica vacation in June. I had looked through their online showcase and saw a few pieces that I had wanted to mix and match around a semi-black opal I had purchased from Lightning Ridge, Australia. It was a narrow deadline for a custom piece, but they came through! Throughout the fabrication process they kept me in the loop with important design decisions and photo, video, and 3D model updates. The piece was finished in the nick of time & it was off to Costa Rica to pop the question! I chose to take a paddle instead of a knee, during a nighttime bioluminescent kayak tour in the Gulf of Nicoya! She said yes! Additional thanks to the lovely staff for seeing the process through until the very end, including the resizing that had to take place when we returned from our trip!
I originally found Ken and Dana via Yelp when my husband and I were searching for wedding bands. I liked the rings I saw online and that was incentive enough to visit their studio. Their customer services upon arrival was great! We sat down and explained what we were looking for, they showed us pieces from the collection and took their time explaining each of the pieces.
I ended up getting two wedding bands and my husband got his here as well! We were absolutely thrilled with the outcome of all three rings, we get compliments on them pretty much every day! I cannot wait until my next anniversary when I can send my husband back for more :)
The pricing is great too! I have a white gold band with diamonds all the way around and it was a fraction of the price from other retailers we were looking it. I can’t say enough good things about Ken and Dana Design. If you are looking for unique and beautiful pieces this is definitely the place for you!
