FAQ

Production Timeline Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

When will I receive my order? Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

With the exception of our "Ready to Ship" products, all of our items are made to order, and generally require a 4-6 week turnaround time. Custom pieces typically require 5-8 weeks. Please contact us for specific lead times or deadline requests.

Can my order be rushed? Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

Some engagement rings and wedding bands can be rushed for an extra fee by choosing the "rush" option under your product of choice. This means that production time will take 2 weeks, instead of the usual 4 - 6 weeks. If you have a hard deadline, please send an inquiry to info@kenanddanadesign.com.

I need a ring today. Do you have anything available? Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

Yes, our Ready to Ship collection features preset engagement rings that can be shipped out or picked up today. Please note, if you require a resizing on the item, we need an additional week to turn that around.

Sizing Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

How do I determine my ring size? Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

Order our complimentary ring sizer, or download this size guide to help determine your finger size. We recommend going with a size that is easy to slide on and slightly resistant when taking it off.

Can my ring be resized? Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

With the exception of eternity bands and certain intricate designs, most rings can be resized up to 1 1/2 sizes up or down from its current size. If you're purchasing an engagement ring or wedding band, you get one complimentary resizing as long as the adjustment is within 1 1/2 sizes. Each additional sizing is $65.00. Rings that cannot be resized will require remanufacturing which comes with a fee. If your ring has an engraving, the resizing process will likely erase some of the engraving; $15 would be applied if you request for an re-engraving.

We cover the shipping cost of the first resizing (for domestic orders only), and thereafter it is $70 for two way shipping, including insurance.

For international orders, we only accept resizing requests from the UK, Canada, and Australia. The shipping fee is $95 each way.

Resizing generally takes one to two weeks. However, this could be delayed or we may not accept requests for resizing during peak seasons, such as December. When sending your resizing back, please download and include a copy of this return form with your shipment.

Can I use another jeweler to size or repair my Ken & Dana Design ring after purchase? Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

We do not recommend that you use another jeweler to work on your Ken & Dana Design ring. All jewelers have their own individual approach to jewelry making and quality standard, and many might be unfamiliar with our unique designs. Additionally, repair or service by a jeweler or designer other than Ken & Dana Design will void the warranty that comes with our engagement rings and wedding bands.

Diamonds, Gemstones & Metals Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

What is the difference between diamonds and colored gems? Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

When dealing with precious stones, there are clear distinctions. Each type has its own particular chemical and physical properties. Diamonds exist in over 300 colors and are the rarest and most precious type of stone; they are prized for their high refractive index (giving it great brilliance), as well as their durability (they are the hardest mineral in the world, making it ideal for everyday wear). The second most common precious mineral that we work with is Sapphire. It exists in a large variety of colors, and is a great alternative to diamond because of its durability. In addition, we also offer lab grown diamonds and sapphires. Unless you are a gemologist and have access to gem lab equipment, you won’t be able to tell the difference between a created diamond or sapphire and a mined one.

What is the Ken & Dana Design diamond quality standard? Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

We hand-select and inspect every diamond before purchasing and setting them for our clients.

For center stones, we recommend diamonds that exhibit the best combination of value and aesthetics. Brilliance is the most important factor, because every diamond should sparkle and dance in the light. Your diamond should look colorless and perfect to the naked eye (Color & Clarity). To satisfy these requirements, our recommended grade ranges from E to H color, VS1 to SI1 clarity depending on the type of diamond and shape that you choose. Our recommended grade is listed on each product page.

For accent diamonds, we only buy the best quality available on the market. We require the best cutting from our suppliers, and only accept VS clarity diamonds (with the exception of designs that call for salt and pepper diamonds, or otherwise by special request). All stones are handpicked to match the color of your center diamond. For more information, visit our Diamond FAQ for further reading on how to choose a diamond.

Finally, we also offer custom sourcing for our clients who prefer a different quality diamond than our recommendation. Email us at sales@kenanddanadesign.com for more info.

What size diamond should I get? Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

If you're unsure about what size diamond to select, consider choosing a size that represents the best that you can afford. Since we took the liberty of selecting diamonds at the best quality and value, we recommend opting for the largest size that fits within your budget.

What colored stones do you offer? Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

Although there are a limited number of gemstones you can order directly from our website (sapphires, morganites and aquamarines), we carry and are able to source a much wider variety of gemstones and diamond alternatives: including (but not limited to) black, brown, rustic, rough diamonds, sapphires, tourmalines, emeralds, rubies, opals & moissanites. Email us at info@kenanddanadesign.com for any gemstone sourcing requests.

What metals do you work with? Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

All designs are available in 14k & 18k white, yellow, and rose gold, as well as platinum. Certain designs such as plain wedding bands (where stone setting is not required) are available in sterling silver.

What is the difference between platinum, white gold, and silver? Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

When comparing these 3 options, the deciding factors usually come down to budget, durability concerns, and maintenance. Platinum is the most expensive metal and is also the densest. It is a naturally white metal, and will remain that way for life without the need for additional maintenance. So it is a great option for someone looking to make their new Ken & Dana Design piece a family heirloom for future generations. 18k and 14k white gold features an intermediate price point. 18k contains a higher percentage of gold compared to 14k, thereby making it a more precious option. 14k white gold is the less expensive option, because it contains a lower concentration of gold compared to 18k. Since gold is a yellow metal, alloying and rhodium-plating are required to achieve a white color. Alloying allows for gold to look smoky-white, and rhodium plating gives it a bright white finish. This plating does wear off, so clients who prefer a bright white finish should have their ring re-plated (about once every 18 months). Read more about rhodium plating here. Lastly, silver is the least expensive option. It is a soft, white, lustrous metal, and it is prone to oxidation when stored inside a box or safe. We do not offer silver wherever there are stone settings because silver is too soft to secure gemstones for a lifetime.

Ethics & the Environment Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

Do you use conflict free diamonds? Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

Yes. All of our diamonds are Kimberly Process compliant. The Kimberley Process is a certification system that prohibits the trading of diamonds from war-torn regions.

What is the Kimberly Process? Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

The Kimberley Process certification scheme was created in 2003 to break the relationship between diamonds and bloodshed. This process monitors conflict diamonds from entering the mainstream rough diamond market, so that diamond purchases do not finance violence. It’s set up to assure consumers that by purchasing diamonds they are not financing war and disgusting human rights violations that have been carried out in such conflicts.

What is recycled metal? Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

Ken & Dana Design uses precious metals from renewed sources derivative from numerous post-consumer sources, including recycled jewelry, industrial products, and electronics components. Our precious metals are of identical quality to newly mined metals. By using recycled metals, our aim is to reduce the need for additional dirty mining of precious metals, such as open pit mining. For more information about recycled metal, please visit our partner Hoover & Strong.

Will a portion of my sale be donated to any charities or organizations? Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

Yes. We make donations to Earthworks and Cool Effect every month.

Earthworks is an advocacy group dedicated to protecting communities and the environment from the adverse impacts of mineral and energy development while promoting sustainable solutions. They stand for clean air, water and land, healthy communities, and corporate accountability.

Cool Effect is a non-profit organization dedicated to fighting climate change by promoting and supporting carbon reducing projects around the world.

Over the years, we have also helped raise thousands of dollars for the Brady Campaign, Red Cross, and the Harlem Children’s Zone.

Do you offer lab grown diamond engagement rings? Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

Yes. Ken & Dana is proud to offer our clients beautiful, investment-grade lab grown diamonds and engagement rings up to 20 carats in size, in a variety of shapes. All lab grown diamonds are independently graded and certified. Read more about lab grown diamonds here.

Customizations Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

Can you create a custom engagement ring for me? Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

Yes. Custom rings start with an in-studio meeting (or via e-mail/Skype/phone for out of state clients), and coming to an agreed-upon vision and specifications. We will then draw up a proposal and estimated cost. The design process is broken down into three phases and you will be charged a non-refundable fee with each stage of work. Custom designs typically take 6-8 weeks, but can be longer, depending on the request. Read more about the process here or contact us for more details at info@kenanddanadesign.com.

How can I customize my engagement ring in a budget-friendly manner? Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

We understand that custom engagement rings can be costly and unpredictable, so we encourage our clients to personalize their ring instead. Start by finding a KDD ring that you love and then personalize it by adding an inscription, adding a fingerprint, changing the finish, or adding an accent birthstone. Send us an email with your story, and we'll help you brainstorm for ideas.

Do you offer custom engraving? Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

Yes! A laser inscription is a great way to personalize your ring. Some common inscriptions include special dates, nicknames or phrases that are meaningful to your relationship. An engraving will be an additional $40 and may take 3 additional days for delivery. Engraved items cannot be returned.

Center Stone Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

Can I provide my own diamond or gemstone? Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

Yes, but you will have to send your stone to us. All settings are created around your center stone, and we do not believe in sending out unfinished work. Therefore if you have a diamond or gemstone that you would like us to use, you would need to send that to us along with the proper documentation (such as a gemstone certificate or appraisal). A fee will be assessed based on the value of your gemstone. The fee is $250 for stones valued under $5000, and increases by $250 for each additional $5000 in value. Please contact us at sales@kenanddanadesign.com for more details on how to send in your stone.

Can I upgrade my diamond? Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

Yes! We offer center stone upgrade on natural mined diamonds. Your center stone diamond can be exchanged for a new diamond that is at least 75% greater in value. Through this exchange, the original purchase price of the center diamond will be used as credit towards the new diamond. The original diamond must be returned with the original documentation and must be in original condition. We do not offer upgrades for lab grown diamonds, rustic diamonds (such as salt & pepper), colored diamonds or gemstones, or settings and jewelry. In the event that your new diamond does not fit in the original setting, you can elect to turn your original jewelry in for precious metal scrap credit towards your new setting. Before we recycle your jewelry, you will be provided with a credit estimate based on market pricing. Relevant taxes apply.

Do you offer Temporary Settings? Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

Do you offer temporary settings? Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

Yes! If you want to surprise your significant other with a proposal, but would rather wait for your partner to choose the design, you may purchase a diamond or gemstone from us and we will mount it into a classic solitaire setting in your choice of 14k white, yellow, or rose gold for an additional $900. Production time for this temporary setting is approximately 3 weeks.

Within 60 days of the original purchase, you and your partner may come in to return the temporary setting and choose from our selection of rings or begin discussing a custom ring. A $400 refurbishing fee will be deducted from the purchase price of the setting, with the remainder $500 used as credit towards the purchase of the new setting.

This service is not offered to clients who wish to provide their own center stone.

100% Satisfaction Guaranteed Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

Do you offer a warranty? Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

Yes. Ken & Dana Design jewelry is meticulously handcrafted in New York City with the highest standards of quality and excellence, and we are proud of our work. We offer a limited lifetime warranty on the craftsmanship of our jewelry.

Our manufacturing warranty guarantees we take full responsibility for any manufacturing / structural issues for your piece(s). To be more specific, let's say there is a particular stone that continues to fall out or the metal cracks under normal wear - these are signs the material is compromised and needs to be reworked. Which we would 100% take care of and make it right for you. Any servicing required due to normal wear and tear or if the piece experiences some kind of trauma, that is when insurance would come into play (thank goodness for insurance!). Because rings are worn on your hand, all day, everyday, and constantly come into contact with surfaces, it is unfortunately inevitable for your ring to experience some sort of damage throughout its lifetime. For these reasons, we encourage our clients to send in their pieces for maintenance annually so that any potential hiccups can be addressed immediately and to fully insure your pieces. If you have insurance, any servicing would be covered by them to make the process smooth and stress free!

Should your jewelry require attention related to damage, please contact us for instructions on shipping your ring to us. Before your ring is shipped to us, we will need to collect a $70 deposit which covers the cost of two-way shipping (we will email you a shipping label). Upon receipt, your ring will be evaluated by one of our team members to determine if the damage is covered by our warranty. This fee will be refunded in full if the repair work is determined to be covered by our warranty. If your repair is not covered by our warranty, we will notify you with an estimated cost for you to approve before any repair work is performed. If you approve the repairs, your deposit will be applied to the total cost. If you do not approve the repairs, the deposit will be used to cover the return shipping charge after evaluation.

If a manufacturing issue is found, Ken & Dana will repair the damage without charge. Additionally we will cover the service and shipping cost on most minor repairs that happen within twenty four months from the time you receive your product (assuming no obvious major trauma is found). Examples include diamond accent replacement, tightening of loose stones, and ring warping. Beyond the first year, minor repairs are usually required because of wear and tear, and we will charge you a service fee at our cost + shipping (if applicable).

Any repair or service by someone other than Ken & Dana Design will void this warranty. This warranty excludes coverage for wear and tear, physical abuse, theft, loss of center gemstone, and damage caused by failure to obtain the proper repairs to preserve the integrity of the jewelry. Examples of issues not covered by our lifetime warranty include: precious metals worn over a long period (in particular, in delicate areas such as prongs) will wear thin over time and requires restoration as part of normal wear and tear; the loss of gemstone(s) caused by damage or wear and tear - such as prongs catching, wearing out, or being struck by force; change in metal color due to exposure to chemicals, make-up, or baths and swimming pools; and, ring warping due to improper fit.

We always recommend the purchase of independent insurance for your Ken & Dana Design jewelry. This will help recover damaged, lost or stolen jewelry, and any repairs that fall outside of our warranty.

Do you offer free maintenance on your engagement rings? Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

Yes. We recommend having your engagement ring professionally cleaned and inspected every 6 months. Your ring should also be immediately serviced if it has undergone trauma, such as being dropped or struck. Even if your ring looks to be unharmed, it may have issues that can only be detected by a professional. These inspections will make sure that the prongs are secure, which helps to prevent the loss of your diamond or gemstone if your ring has been inadvertently damaged. Ken & Dana Design provides this service to our clients free of charge. If you live in the NYC area, simply send us an email to info@kenanddanadesign.com to schedule an appointment for inspection and cleaning.

Do you offer free cleaning? Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

Yes. Feel free to make an appointment for a complimentary cleaning as often as you like. If you live in the NYC area, simply send an email to info@kenanddanadesign.com to schedule an appointment for cleaning. The process will only take about 30 minutes.

Can I make a return? Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

Yes. You can shop with confidence, knowing that if for any reason you are not satisfied, you may take advantage of our 14 day return & exchange policy. The item must be returned in its original, unworn condition within 14 days of the initial shipment. Each piece must be returned in the original packaging with all original documentation/certification. Items that are special order, customized/altered, engraved, have been repaired/resized, or have been previously exchanged are not returnable or exchangeable. Also, rings that are not resizable such as eternity bands or rings with special patterns are not eligible for return. Please note that rush fees and shipping charges are non-refundable and we do not pay for shipping, duties or taxes of items returned to us.

How to make a return or exchange Icon / Plus Created with Sketch. Page 1 Created with Sketch.

Please contact us at returns@kenanddanadesign.com before sending back merchandise. Once your request has been approved and logged into our system, fill out this form and include it with your return. Please be sure to carefully enclose each piece in its original packaging (including all paperwork and certification) with proper padding. The package must be insured for the total purchase amount. The client will be responsible for all shipping fees and any customs duties or clearance for all shipments. Ken & Dana Design is not responsible for lost or damaged items during transit. Alternatively you may email us about purchasing a shipping label that includes full insurance and return address.
