Coadie feels as though it grew around its marquise diamond. A wave-like band carries hand-engraved bark toward two vivid pink sapphires, bringing together the elongated center, flashes of color and the irregular beauty of a living branch.
The band shifts dramatically from approximately 3.10mm to 1.20mm, so the silhouette moves from sculptural to delicate as it approaches the stone. Two eye-clean pink sapphires totaling about 0.12 carats sit beside the marquise, their color made more striking by the organic metalwork around them.
The bark is genuine hand engraving. An artisan works directly into the metal with a graver—a small, razor-sharp hand tool—cutting every groove and irregular line one stroke at a time. It is a dying jewelry art practiced by very few craftspeople today, and the engraving alone can require a full day at the bench. When an original texture or motif begins as artwork in our studio, the remarkable final step is watching that drawing become permanent relief in precious metal through the engraver's hand.
