Adelia gives the pear solitaire an organic split-shank frame, its bark texture flowing toward hand-engraved leaves that continue onto the prongs. The effect is natural without being delicate for delicacy's sake—there is texture, movement and evidence of the hand everywhere you look.
At approximately 2.20mm wide, the band gives the split silhouette and textured surface enough presence to read clearly while still allowing the pear center to remain the focal point.
The leaf accents are carved directly into the metal by hand. Using a graver—a small, extremely sharp tool—an artisan cuts each line, vein and contour individually. Hand engraving is a dying art in fine jewelry; very few craftspeople still possess the skill to do it beautifully, and the engraving alone can require a full day at the bench. When we create original artwork for a motif, this is where drawing and jewelry truly meet: the engraver interprets that art cut by cut into precious metal.
