How we met:
I was working at a chiropractor’s office when I first met Hanna. She came in with a pretty serious back injury, and the moment she walked through the door, I completely lost my composure. Before she even left, I was texting my friends: “I just met the hottest firefighter.”
Part of her treatment involved laser therapy which meant I had to work around her low low back so here I am trying to stay professional while also asking this incredibly beautiful woman to expose her but and lie face down for treatment. Definitely awkward to say the least!
Apparently, I didn’t embarrass myself too much because the very next day she came back in but this time for a pretty bad neck injury. To this day I still tell her she just wanted an excuse to see me again.
Even after her injuries started to heal, she kept coming in weekly. We bonded over travel, swapping stories and dream trips until our conversations regularly ran into my lunch break. It became the highlight of my week. Six months later, she finally gave me her number. Turns out we’d both liked each other the whole time and just didn’t know it.
Fast forward to today, and we’ve explored over 25 countries together, turning those lunch-break daydreams into real unforgettable adventures.
The Proposal:
The odds were completely against us the night Hanna proposed. Every tour had been canceled due to rain, but our guide took a chance and drove us three hours east in search of a break in the clouds. When we arrived, he built a fire in the snow and kept us warm with hot chocolate as we waited in the freezing dark. Around midnight, the sky finally opened up and the northern lights began to dance above us.
That’s when Hanna got down on one knee. After a few seconds of shock and laughter, I dropped down to my knees and said yes.
The northern lights had been on my bucket list since I was twelve, something Hanna knew very early on in our relationship. So the fact that she chose that moment made it feel incredibly intentional and unforgettable.
The chances of seeing the lights that night were almost nothing, but somehow we ended up right where we were supposed to be just in time.
After the proposal, we spent the next 5 weeks exploring Finland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark!
The Engagement Ring:
I knew I wanted a ring that felt both unique, timeless and had an antique look, so Hanna and I designed it together to make sure it reflected both of us.
For months we went back and forth trying to find the perfect design. Hanna’s cousin is a jewelry designer and even created some custom sketches for us which made the process so personal and special but after six months of exploring different ideas, we still hadn’t found "the one." We liked certain elements but something was missing.
Then I came across an old Pinterest pin I had saved of the Skyla Marquise by Ken & Dana. When I showed Hanna, she immediately pulled up her phone and showed me that she had saved the exact same ring at the very start of her search.
Realizing we had both independently landed on the same design felt like a sign. We knew Ken & Dana were the ones to bring our ring to life.
